Day 2 and 3 of the Sidecar Rally.

Day 2: Thursday.
We woke up drenched in sweat at 6:45 and it was already 80 degrees in our tents. We crawled out to sit at the picnic table in hopes of catching a light breeze. The energetic rabbits kept up entertained and distracted from the heat and baking sun. A delightful polite woman came over the hill while we were finishing our breakfast and debating a cold shower to wash off the sweat before 7:30, she was the one we were supposed to speak with in the hopes of getting a better spot (according to the not so pleasant one from the night before). I finished and left Opa to finish his coffee and to clean up his breakfast stuff; meanwhile, I went up to speak to the woman about possibly moving to a different site. It took all of 15 minutes to rearrange some sites and discuss the removal or a rental trailer. When they realized that the trailer was of no interest or interference to us, they gave us the spot. We barely packed, I didn't fully deflate my sleeping mat, let my sleeping bag out of it's compression bag, didn't bother to take apart or fold up my helinox, and certainly didn't make any efforts to do any of the packing neatly. I just carried the chair on the back seat and drove the bike to our new site. This was right across from the bathrooms, away from the pond enough to avoid mosquitoes, and perfectly shaded all day. Opa was delighted. We were getting in the right direction for him to have a good time. We had a few people come by to visit and spent most of the day relaxing in the shade, watching everyone trickle in to register. After a few hours of registration being open, we finally mustered the courage to brave the sweltering heat of crossing the 30 yards of unshaded hell. We registered, collected our goody bag, and I must say-this may be the best one yet. Stress balls that looked like a lucky slot machine, stress ball keychains shaped like suns, free ice cream coupon, and a $5 off certificate to all of the local eateries. If you have been with this blog for a while, you know that if you say "ice cream" that you will find Opa standing behind whoever had said those magic words. Opa took a few naps throughout the day, only waking up to move into another shady spot on our site. I wandered around the campsites looking at some of the rigs and speaking to some people.

Day 3: Friday.
More and more people rolled into the site as everyone had left work and some had been traveling from a longer distance. By 2:30 in the afternoon, Opa's ice cream craving was at it's peak. We went to wander around town to find Paddy Wagon's, the ice cream place. The place wouldn't open until 4:30. You could hear him moan, like when a young kid drops his ice cream on the ground. So, he settled for getting pie and ice cream from one of the local diners until he could got get some ice cream at PW's. He enjoyed running around town and looking at everyone's face as he drove by. He was utterly delighted about his second serving of ice cream. I later drove out to grab some pizza for dinner at Caudillo's. It was delightful. Tomorrow will be jam-packed with everything fun.
