Last Day Celebrations
Day 15: July 15, 2017: SLC
It is basically the last day of the rally. The last day usually consists of packing after one last trip through all of the vendors, sitting in a few seminars, one quick lap through the food court and passed the food trucks. Boy, do I have a lot to pack: 6 new shirts, 2 cds, a blue ribbon, and a plaque. I had registered yesterday to possibly win some awards under the youngest female rider and longest distance sidecar/trike categories. Lucky me, I had received the call to come collect an award.
They called out the awards one by one. The man who won first place was a bit disappointed saying that sidecar and trike should be separate categories and that I should have also won first place, and that I should have been first place with him. He was very kind about it and completely right (according to us, at least).
I raced back to our little camping area to show Opa and the rest of the crew. I stopped by on my way back to show Tracy, the HoneyBadger sidecar extraordinaire - she congratulated me. Opa celebrated and called some of his friends to let them know while I was posting to my social media accounts and calling my Omi and mom. Opa had pointed to this cover on my bike that I had received as a gift from one of his friends, Vickery.
We cut our celebrations short to make our way towards the closing ceremonies. We watched as people won motorcycles, gear, and even trips that would include rentals! We were not included in the group of lucky winners, which was okay, I had won enough at the rally. After the ceremonies were over Opa went to camp to pack and get ready for bed, and I went to work the last show. James Intveld and the Honky-Tonk Palaminos were closing the rally. Rockabilly Hall of Famer, James Intveld and the Honky-Tonk Palaminos had heard of me from Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys late last night or earlier in the day! The show was wonderful and had the crowd dancing, of course.
The band had finished, packed and left. Everyone was getting their last hoorahs, goodbyes, and information exchanged before going to bed.
--New goal: 100,000 miles in 10 years. This trip will push 16,000, including my 3,000 learning miles. That could be relatively doable. We shall see.
