On the fifth day, there was a wizard.

Day 5: August 5, 2017: Alamosa, CO: 345/555km

Pulling out of Amarillo, I started the countdown; 99,985 miles on the odometer.
"15 miles."
"10 miles."
"5 miles."
"2 miles."
"NOW NOW NOW NOW!!! PULL OVER NOW!!"

We pulled over to the shoulder, took pictures of the odometer for Opa to join the 100,000 mile club. He has never really paid attention to his miles or cared to carefully log and track them, until now! He took a few pictures of me on the bike in-between bursts of dancing in the middle of the freeway. Decided that we had finished celebrating and were ready to log some miles for the day. We wandered around two small Texan towns looking for fuel, found some just before we crossed into New Mexico. Before we knew it, we were pulling through Colorado and went to two different gas stations to get gas. One station was out, we each barely got $1.00 worth. The second gas station was fine. The problem came 10 minutes later when we were back on the freeway and Opa recieved a text message from Chase about freezing the account. GREAT! That's just what we need. It took almost 30 minutes on the side of the freeway in the blistering sun for Opa to yell enough to make the people unfreeze the card.  After about an hour we found a KOA in Alamosa. Opa started to set up his new walmart tent. Of course, grumbling about the lack in quality and how he would prefer to have his eureka already. We finished the sandwiches that we bought earlier in the day and decided that the best way to finish the evening was to drive into town for, you guessed it, ice cream. The Nestle cafe had some decently fast wifi, so I spent some time checking emails from Sue, Lee, Mari, and Greg. Even had some time to snag the Crossroads Rally app and teach Opa how to use it. Opa plans to set up camp in Salt Lake City by Tuesday, at the latest. Luckily the tent gave out early enough in the trip that it will be easier to replace.
Left the ice cream shop, noticed some dark clouds spanning the sky. We hurry to the rigs and race to camp. Opa didn't notice the wizard following us until I had mentioned him. The interesting things you can find on a trip... Made it back in time to watch Opa race around and close his tent up before the rain came down. He didn't manage to make it back before his tent was full of dust from all of the wind!

In the selfie, you can make out the wizard. I was trying to sneak a picture of him.
