The Shower Shoe Search

Day 6: August 6, 2017: Durango, CO: 149m/239km

Pulling out of Alamosa this morning, Opa spent about 10 minutes admiring a trailer that we passed at an intersection. Opa talked about staying two nights in Durango, going to Four Corners and Mesa Verde-that depends on the heat, I guess. We passed a Urul sidecar, this is the second sidecar that we have seen on the road so far. As we enter Durango to look for a place to sit while hunting for a campground, Opa tells me that I am in charge of hunting through the street signs. I spot a Denny's. "SOLD," Opa says as he swings the sharpest right turn. After a milkshake and an apple crumble with ice cream were devoured and a campground found, we decide to make our way over. The campground is nice. The downside is that we are at the bottom of a steep hill and the bathrooms/showers and laundry are on top of said steep hill. We did our first load of laundry on the trip. Opa used a washing machine that left a grease stain on one of his shirts. oh boy. Opa mentioned that his phone wasn't getting the battery life that he wanted. I mentioned that part of it is because his helmet is attached and that will drain the battery, that he has all of the programs running and refreshing in the background and that he never closes them. and that he never uses battery saving mode. Now he has become obsessed with closing everything and continues to ask if I knew this or that. I've created a monster. Once the laundry was finished and his phone was in an "acceptable" position to function, Opa decided that it was time for a shower. That shower was delayed, due to his frantic hunt for his lost shower shoes that he has owned for 25+ years. He found them in a relatively usual spot. He usually tosses his shower shoes into the bottom of the sidecar with his shower bag. His shower shoes were in his sidebag where he usually puts his boots or his slip-ons. Not too far off his usual.
He was so excited to find them, I couldn't handle how precious the reunion was.
